Madrid, I <3 you.
just touched down in the barajas airport a few hours ago. jetlagged and looking a mess, i started research immediately with porras (Madrid’s fatter version of a churro) and a manchado (macchiato for all you italophiles) on la Calle Conde Duque.
they worked…they were ok. see, in Spain, churros are so commonplace, such a part of the daily routine. think bagels for all of you NYers out there. scones for all you Brits. but most places are too small to make their own churros in-house, so cafes have them delivered at 6 am from central churro shops.
therefore, by the time i got there at 8 am, these were soggy and cold. but they started the churro quest.
